We require 72 hours, not including Bank holidays and weeks to process your prescription.
Why do we ask for 72 hours:-
We have a large number of requests each day, every individual medication is check by the clerk who can issue these for the doctor to sign as long as medication reviews and blood tests are all up to date.
For medication that has not been requested for some time or blood tests have not been completed, our prescription clerks discuss this with the GP and may message you to contact the surgery for a review or appointment.
Medications and creams not requested within 6 months cannot be requested without seeing a GP for review.
Some medications require regular reviews for patient safety reasons and blood tests will be required.
We do not accept prescription requests over the telephone.
Why do we not accept telephone requests:-
There is a higher rate of error when requesting medication by telephone. Some tablets have different names and strengths. By requesting online an electronic request is saved to your record and can easily be traced.
We do no accept request from pharmacies or email.
Why we do not accept these requests:-
Some pharmacies have ordered all medications each month and may not be required by the patient at that time. This did cause a lot of wastage, which we have dramatically reduced by changing our process.
Emails take a lot longer to process. The NHS only provide a small inbox to receive emails and this is quickly blocked by prescription requests. By ordering online an electronic detail is saved to your record.

We ask you to check with the pharmacy first as telephone lines can be blocked not allowing patients, needing to book appointments etc., to contact the surgery.
Some medications do need close monitoring. We may ask you to have a blood pressure check or a blood test to make sure they are still working for you. If you have any concerns then please see one of our clinicians for a review.
