Research has shown that a midwife’s knowledge and confidence discussing vaccinations directly influences uptake .
This is particularly important about vaccinations in pregnancy.
Our team at Imperial College have developed a free website to promote the uptake of vaccines in pregnancy
“Every year in the UK, RSV claims the lives of 20–30 babies and hospitalises around 30,000 more, yet this can now be prevented with a new vaccine offered during pregnancy.
At the same time, uptake of the whooping cough vaccine has fallen, contributing to the deaths of 11 babies in 2024.
Whether it's a new vaccine or one that has been used for decades, expectant parents often ask the same questions: “How do I know it's safe? Will it protect my baby?”
To support these conversations, we’ve launched
https://www.vaccinesinpregnancy.org/
The site provides clear, evidence-based information for expectant parents and healthcare professionals, with curated resources to help make these important discussions easier and more impactful.
Please share widely with your students and midwifery team
